Decorative Crafts is a painting and decorating business that prides itself on the range and scope of projects undertaken; from the decorating of new build homes through to the restoration of listed buildings. Whilst most decorating businesses limit their activities to external and internal painting combined with hanging basic wallcoverings, we at Decorative Crafts draw on a broad range of disciplines providing greater choice.
Our in-depth knowledge of traditional methods and a highly developed traditional skill set enables our customers and clients to explore endless possibilities without placing limitations on their decorative aspirations.

Having served a full apprenticeship and completed my Advanced Craft qualifications l worked for two other companies before setting up my own specialist decorating business in 1988. I combined this with a part time lecturing post at Cleveland College of Art and Design (now the Northern School of Art) I gave up my business interests after taking up the offer of a full time lecturing position that included the delivery of practical workshops for Advanced Craft trade operatives and interior design students.
I did this for seven years until 1995 when the closure of the Decorating Department forced a career change. I then gained employment working as a Business Adviser before making Business Development my main occupation for many years.
In 2013 I established Decorative Crafts and returned full time to doing what l love, being creative and hands on, bringing projects to fruition for clients who appreciate traditional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Sign boards sympathetically recreated to something close to their original look as our contribution to the restoration of a vintage wagon.
Close to completion, just a little shadowing and few coats of varnish before delivery.
It's not everyday a customer asks you to create a new wood. For this hallway we painted the walls and woodwork in Farrow and Ball Joa's white and then painted on the wood grain effect to ensure a harmonious overall look.

“I just phoned my husband to say how pleased I was with the painting and he said to tell you! Your cutting in is sharper than a razor blade.” Thanks ever so much.

I have never written a reference like this for anyone, but some things just deserve to be said. We have been so fortunate to have had our decorating carried out by Joe O’Donnell for 35 years over 3 homes.
He has wallpapered, wood grained, marbled, colour matched, sourced materials and been a genius at detail. He is never short of ideas and is always up for a challenge. We are delighted to wholeheartedly recommend him.
Frankly his middle name should be Merlin.
